I am 30 and my dermatologist advised a vitamin A cure for my acne, what do you think?

If your acne is rooted in vitamin A deficiency it will work wonders.

This is an underlying cause for a lot of people with chronic acne. But it’s not the only one. Far from it. Vitamins are an important part of controlling how our bodies run. While extra vitamin A will starve out acne. Extra vitamins like B12 will cause acne and that type isnt going to respond long term to high dosing of A.

Given how this question is phrased I am guessing you are not in the USA. We dont have anything known as "vitamin A cure". We have Accutane, a high dose retinoid drug. We also have high dose B5 (pantothenic acid) if you are brave and like reproducing research from other countries. I know I do but was not ok with trying this one because of the hair loss potential. Perhaps the doctors in your country are a little more enlightened and are recommending she picks up a retinyl palmitate supplement. That is a great idea. Taken in a reasonable dose of course.

Vitamin mega dosing should never be implemented for controlling acne or any other disease for that matter in my opinion. I once tried high dose Zinc. (not for acne) A 50mg daily dose is way too high for someone with an inflammatory disorder because of its cortisol suppressing effects. Of course at the time I didnt know any of this. I knew something was seriously wrong with me but I didnt know what yet. My cortisol got so low one night I collapsed from weakness on my way to the toilet. It was shortly after taking my daily zinc the following morning that I made the connection. I made the decision to induce vomiting because I wake up and pee a lot.

My book covers all the most common underlying health issues that lead to chronic acne. As well as which otc products are best. There is a lot of crap on the shelves that will make things worse. Especially the stuff marketed to treat acne ironically.
